Ron,
The 1/22 certainly knew where the Plei Trap Valley was. On 2-16-67, A Co got sucked into an ambush and had 20 KIA and 27 WIA, and C Co, coming to their rescue, had 2 more KIA, including their CO. Less than a month later, on 3-14-67, what was left of A Co caught it again, with 16 KIA and 20 WIA. It didn't get any better in 68. On 2-5-68, A Co had 4 KIA, 1 MIA and 20 WIA. Between 4-25 and 4-28-68, the whole Battalion got into it at the Battle for Chu Moor Mountain, with 18 KIA and over 120 WIA. It was the same in 1969. Near the end of Operation Wayne Grey, the 1/22 was OPCON to the 1st Brigade and on 4-5-69, D Co had 9 KIA and 17 WIA. Those 5 battles in the Valley resulted in a third of all the Battalion KIAs between 66 and 70. An ugly place to be.
