The 1/22th was brought in to reinforce the 3/12th. The 3/8th had been beat to hell. Alpha company was almost wiped out during the Battle of LZ Brace. D/3/8 was also in bad shape from Hill 947. We had so few ships flyable that we were relieved by the 189th after Task Force Alpha's extraction. We were senting maybe three to five ships a day to help during the end of the operation. Those final assaults in the valley were crazy. Every company was under strength and every time they went into that area they ran into fortified bunkers that would number into the hundreds at one complex. After we pulled the 1/8 out on March 30th we should have done the same to the 3/12th and the 3/8th and just bombed the hell out of the place. The classic is that one year later the 4th goes into Cambodia not far from the Plei-Trap again.
