Profiles

Last Thursday night at 7:00 pm CST on ABC a different show graced the air waves. Profiles From the Front Line is a show about the young men and women on the lines fighting terrorist. They included a few people from each force that was there.

One part had a captain with the 82nd ABN. Another was three SF guys hunting down bad guys. A navy flight deck ammo supervisor and one or two others. The one that impressed me the most was a E-4 who worked in the POL refueling helicopters. This young man had joined the reserves right out of high school. He had completed his 6 years commitment in 1999 and left the service to enter college. He was married on the Saturday prior to 9/11. Several people which worked for the same company he was employed with were killed that day. He had felt guilty about not doing all that he could have done during his enlistment so he re-entered the army because he felt he needed to do something more.

He is now in Afghanistan refueling helicopters. Living in one of those smelly tent. Enduring the heat and all the discomforts of that part of the world. He enjoys a two minute phone call to his pretty young wife once a week. How much does an E-4 make? He is doing all of this because he felt guilty.

We then have the beautiful people like Sean Penn going to see Saddum because he is a wonderful human being and God forbid that we might start a war. America has many heroes. None of them live in Hollywood. One real hero can be found refueling helicopters and getting E-4 pay. And to think that this person would have anything to feel guilty about is beyond me. Those clowns in make believe land are not worthy enough to polish that man's boots with their tongues.
