A Good Day

I spent the afternoon with Gene yesterday. We had lunch and talked about the good old day. I hate to tell you guys this but we decided we were the heroes of the central highlands and we just allowed you guys to come along for the ride. I can't wait to see the response from that statement.

After we won the war we started putting faces to names and names to faces. We used many of the same methods that are used on CSI Miami. To begin with the most common place to start was by height. Most of the guys in the unit were taller. This is because other then Jim Sempek and Sam Stealla everybody else was taller then me and Gene. Second was hair. Hair was either dark or light. Only a couple of redheads were with the company. Sp/5 Drinkwine and Mr. Golly-Golly to name two. So now we had the taller, dark haired person. Next was facial hair. Small cookie duster, large cookie duster or no cookie duster. Of course everyone was thin. Between c-rations and some of those great mess hall meals, nobody was fat. Finally the all important glasses. With or without. So now using this profile the tall, thin, dark hair crewchief with the small cookie duster with glasses from first flight was of course Bob Kilpatrick. The about the same size crew chief from second flight with no glasses and no cookie duster and had a Boston accent was of course Bob Legecy.

Pilots were easier then enlisted guys. When God created pilots he gave them a call sign. Remember the call sign remember the name. Here try a couple. Penis, Stoney, Shoufly, Bon-Bon to name a few. The hardest part was putting crews with ship numbers. By the end of the afternoon we had covered just about everything.

I am going to Sam's club to start buying popcorn so we can leave a trail on our way to the reunion. Do you need a passport to enter ND? Of course we have to go through Minn. and we might have to stop and grab Mike and Dave and do some fishing before we get there.
