The early morning combat assault of A/3/12 from LZ Mary to YA 829799 went extremely better then the two weeks ago into LZ Swinger. Other then the fact that several trees blocked the better landing zone everything went fine. The new firebase will be named LZ Cider. It is by far the tallest mountain in the valley. Sitting apart from any ridgeline it stands by itself. The only way in or out is by helicopter. Once the company is in place the flight is divided into three groups. One group will continue bringing troops into Cider. C/3/12 from Hill 947 will join Company A along with Hq/3/12 from LZ Swinger. B/6/29th Arty will be brought in from Polei-Kleng by CH-47s. The second group will be moving D/3/8 from Hill 947 to LZ Brace. They will help C/3/8 construct the firebase there. The third group will be resuppling the remaining units.

The enemy has again decided not to be seen today. None of our ships report fire. Elements of B/3/12 & D/3/12 have departed LZ Swift and are moving to YA 808856 to begin work on LZ D-Handle. We are ready to assist them in case of trouble but they report nothing.

The northern part of the valley is also quiet. Companies Alpha and Charlie continue to operate near YB 847003 but the NVA are no where to be found. The same reports are also received from Bravo and Delta companies which RIF near FSB 20. Artillery was employed against previously targeted enemy location. Night fire programs were completed at different location through out the valley.

For the second day in a row we are released before dark. We could start to enjoy this type of duty. The best news being there were no casualties reported today. We all hoped that maybe our luck had changed. Only tomorrow would tell.
