I wish to God I had been in second flight, or any of the flight platoons, Touch- I was an Avionics REMF...I wanted to fly so bad I could taste it-
but the Avionics bosses wouldn't let me go.
I stayed in Avionics the whole tour (Jan-Dec 70), til after the 119th stood down, and got a drop about a month before my DEROS.
I'd have given my right nut to have served "hands-on" with you guys, partly because avionics was pretty boring, and I was there typically from about 0530 'til 1900, except for half a day off after frequent guard duty. I really wanted to gun to settle a score with Chuck. No such luck. One of my best home buddies, a Marine, was lost about 110 miles North up QL 14 from Holloway, when I was still in boot camp. Dan died kickin' ass and takin' names.
Wannabe?, No. I probably sound sorta full o'shit,
but I can live with that- I really just wanted to do what I knew I could.
Angry, am I?
Most Effin' Affirmative. I guess I still have, as they say these days, "some issues"....I wouldn't mind takin' out some bad diaperheads right now, either...my son, a firefighter, lost a buddy at the WTC on 9/11.
Grumpy Lumpy
p.s.- will try to get a pic posted soonest.
