Re: Flags
In Response To: Flags ()

Prior to the events of 9/11, we flew the Flag only on Holidays. It's not that way any more.

On October 7, 1968, one of my best friends,
Daniel Paul Colgan, PFC E2, USMC, age 20, was KIA in Vietnam. He'd been there two months and five days.

In the Spring of 2001, after searching since '68,
I located some of his family, and acquired his casualty certificate from the Corps, and received a copy of his obituary and photos of Dan, his family, and his gravesite.

Since I'd never had a flagpole in the yard, on October 7th, 2001, I placed a tall one in the yard, and first flew Old Glory on October 18th, the 33rd anniversary of Dan's being put to rest.

This was not only for Dan, but for all our compatriots, since the beginning, and those in the future.

The POW-MIA Flag is next, as of yesterday. Those
young people from 507th Maintenance Company are based in my home town, El Paso, in my old brigade.
God Bless them, and all our service folks.

Lumpy
