Re: Camp Rakkasan, Iraq
In Response To: Re: Camp Rakkasan, Iraq ()

No joke, and with ALL due respect, Ron, there was a Camp Rakkasan up near Evans...at least in the book-on the flyleaf of "CW2", by Layne Heath, a map shows "Rakkasan", about 7 miles southwest of Camp Evans, about 12 miles due west of Hue. It is referred to in the text also, as Camp Rakkasan, and I think I remember from the book that it was a ROK grunt outfit. Mix will probably know, 'cause he was up that way for a while...

I don't know for sure if any of the places mentioned are fictional, but there is reference in the text and on the map to the "Mouse Ears", so-named for their shape... a series of bends in the Song Bo (River) about five miles south of LZ Schueller, just east of the MangYang, and halfway between the pass and Radcliff... Mix (I think it was Mix) has mentioned the Mouse Ears here on the site.

The book is a novel, and excellent. Has a lot about Pleiku, Radcliff, and as far northeast as Bong Son. In my view, it's as good as "Chickenhawk", by Bob Mason. I promised my copies of these to Pickett, but I haven't sent 'em yet, 'cuz I misplaced his address... Yo- Pick??? email me, Bruh ! (or I'll start readin' 'em again)

I'd be happy to pass these around, but I rilly rilly rilly want 'em back (someday)..
