187th Infantry Regiment, Al. Part of the 101st.
"Rakkasans" came from a campaign in the Philipines, something to do with Filipino for "umbrellas from the sky." I have it on good authority that the fact that they came up with that term gave them treaty rights to be the sole source for sweaty strippers with runny mascara for all Vietnam EM and NCO clubs until Saigon fell.
Anyway, for the last 50 or 60 years, the Brigade of the 101st that included the 187th Infantry has used the Rakkasan handle.
More to it than that, I just don't remember the whole deal.
I don't know how I come up with this stuff, probably explains why I can't remember where I left my car.
