George I got 137 in Dec 68 it was a pile of junk they used it as a salvage bird, I was in maint. I bugged them to fly. I would crew for some of the guys that wanted a day off, So to shut me up they said rebuild 137 and you can crew, so i started requesting parts from anywhere I could them from, some that didn't know I was getting (sorry guys if I got some from you )But the big parts like engine, tail boom, Transmission, blades, see all I had was a cabin, so in the first part jan 69 I finshed the bird and started crewing and while My pilot was on r&r the Fox was fling 137 and we went to an LZ they called I think the stove pipe as you had to hover down about 75 feet or so to the bottom not much room for blades. we made it down to the bottom but went we started back up, we started to clear the tree tops we got one of the limbs and got a severe blade strike, we got to a fire base and check the bird as best we could we decided not to spend the night there so we flew back to Holloway and the next day on closer exam we found that the trans mount had cracks in them so they sent 137 in for major repairs. I was put in papa gator 540 and then I got 573 in late Feb this all took place around jan - feb 69 so it is very possible that he got it after they repaired it.I would love to talk to him and find more about 137 as I was shot down 3/21/69 and sent home.I have a picture of 137 as it was being wheeled to the flight line, after I finihed it.
