Tom, Jim Triplett's letters are very powerful stuff, the entire progression leading up to, "I can't write any more."

Your letters to Lorraine, in their entirety, are equally moving in their drive to a similar ultimate conclusion.

I also put various things on paper in attempts to clear my head, and it works. For a while. That's okay.

It's unfortunate that some of us cannot kill our demons by moving them to paper. Some guys just can't, and many of them pay an awful price for that inability.

You guys, US GUYS, need to keep in mind that almost all of us have exactly the same feelings, always for different reasons at different times; but at some point we all came to frustration or the desire to get even or just kill. Makes no difference, it is simply a fact, what happens to people put in our position. ("Don't mean nuthin'" Same-same.) Just a defense mechanism, different words, is all. Fact is, very important to keep in mind, that your reaction is the same as everybody else's reaction at similar stages in their tours; that is... normal.

When I start to feel what I call, "A case of the blackass." coming on, I have learned to thank the Lord that things like this continue to haunt me; haunt us. If we were ever to get to the point where this type of horror seems normal... we would be in deep, deep trouble.

So, I say, let's remember whenever we can, forget when we need to, and always, always guard our friends' graves, at any cost.

((SALUTE))

Thanks,
Bob
