In Response To: Re: Minding The Store ()

Papasan- my first couple of days at Holloway were spent on the Eastern perimeter (toward the Mang Yang)(as if I had to tell you)... repairing bunkers. Did a "few" sandbags. Found contraband.
Gave it to my co-workers on the bunkerline. Had no idea at that time how potent such stuff was. I'd only tried it once before 'Nam, as I was seeing friends just before shipping out. They reminded me that I could die in the Nam, and that I might as well, so oh, well......

A few days later, walking from thehootch to the avionics shop, I found some in a plastic bag lying in the open. A good frined, Everhart, told me that God had intended for me to find it, to keep it out of the hands of the Lifers. Really. We destroyed the evidence, and I did so frequently (MOST frequently) for the rest of my tour, and for years beyond. Honestly, I don't do it any more, but, maybe, someday......

Re: rats.... please. Cats, ok. Dink dogs, OK.
Rats were so bad during my tour that I ALWAYS stayed awake during my off-shift time on the bunkerline, even in the towers. Had a buddy at 71st Evac, and they got into the hootches there.
He had an M3 grease gun, and we'd pop the slugs outta the ammo, dump the powder our, and press the cases into a candle or bar of soap, and waste the ugly vermin with it. Lotsa fun.

Memories.......

Let's build a hootch.......
