In Response To: The montanards ()

Bob, what I remember about those 'Yards is that they had fire in their eyes. Full of fight.

What wonderful, tough little bastards.

ARVN CAs, I could see and smell the fear; most times nobody wanted to unass the ship. CIDG or Mike Force CAs with 'Yards on board, I could feel the fire; they couldn't wait to get on the ground and kick some butt. BIG smiles, "Let's go get some," seemed like they were thinking.

Most of the little guys carried carbines, as I remember it. But it seemed like the smallest of the small always had the BAR; always looked like he could just barely lift it, but he was so damned strong he probably could have carried two.

I feel lucky we were able to work with them once in a while. It was a hoot then, and I get a kick out of thinking about them even now.

The 'Yards are one of the things I smile about when I think of Vietnam.

Bob
