America's Huey ::f

Just returned from a wonderful day at Quantico..

A USMC Color Guard and huge crowd of elementary, middle and high school kids met 091. (many have parents now in Iraq and Afghanistan- and many are aviation folks).

Most names of the fine team evade me at this time, but I have a lot on video and audio, which I will share with Will Swetnam, the 091 webmaster and documentarian.

An amazing tenor crewmember did a rousing rendition of the National Anthem. Noel, a crewmember, led the crowd in a touching chorus of God Bless America. Zack Huckabee, the youngest of the entourage, sang his composition, "The Price of Freedom". Very moving. If I get his permission, I'll post the lyrics. It's a lot like "Have You Forgotten"...

In spite of an expected ban on orientation rides,
two occurred today. A few Guests of Honor, including the Middle School Principal (Nam Vet), their Security Chief, Jessie (Nam Vet, of 560th MP Co, Pleiku) and my son, Mike (Lumpy2) were availed the opportunity, and were clearly thrilled.
Everyone I met associated with the mission was generous, charming, dedicated and PROUD to be there.

I think we should all find a way to thank American Airlines (fly 'em!) and Dyncorps, and Bell, and all who had a part in this great initiative.

The 091 patch is beautiful. I'll wear it proudly.

Still pics will be on CD soonest, and I'll send them to all who wish to have them. I WILL get video processed and distributed, especially to those who can't join us on the 19th.

Still trying to get the skinny on the local plans for the next week.

Hoping to get the entire family to Patuxent River Naval Air Station on Saturday for the events there.

Happy Lumpy :)
