... indicating something very near this:

(moderator) "Mr. Kerry-?"
Hanoi John: "Aye"
(moderator) "Mr. -uh- yes, Mr. Kerry?"
HJ: " I meant 'Nay' ..."
(moderator) "Mr. Kerry, 'Nay"..
HJ: "no, I meant 'Aye'..."
HJ: "no, wait.... what did I say?"
