He's a lovely guy, Shoo.

Sept 70, he was somewhere down south, B/1/9 1st Cav AC (and gun platoon CO, "Saber Red"), at about 3000 ft when he got a transmission chip light. Headed for the ground immediately but the rotor head separated from the ship at about 150 ft. PP was ejected from the tub on impact, AC Inlow rode the crash until it stopped crashing, ended up unconscious, broken back and face and most everything else, in danger of drowning in a puddle of JP-4.

Actually transmitted a MAYDAY after the rotor head departed.

PP, broken back, dragged himself to a tree, propped hizzelf up prepared to defend with his sidearm, then when nothing else bad happened, took a few pictures. Really.

We have a picture hanging in the club that he took of the actual wreck, with the first LOH rescue ship just visible, inbound, in the distance.

When we called Ron Inlow and told him we had his helicopter, he almost hung up. Once he was convinced (after he saw it restored and on the pedestal) he joined the Post.
