Re: A little Crew Chief humor please, Maestro

: BTW, Bob, Bon Bon was there. great guy and he
: said say hello to ya.

He sure is a great guy, and was, Bob. Plus he put up with me, somehow.

In an LZ, or a hoverhole, I would say to him stuff like, "Move yer tail two feet left." And he would do it. "You got an aiming stake six feet left of yer tailrotor." "Okay." Cold. Ice cold.

Rarely wore a chicken plate. Carried it. If an LZ was bad, he'd reach back on the way in and just tip it up in front of him.

I saw him one time lock a Bird Colonel's heels, and another time he went after a Major who abused his CE (me). Tough sumbitch.

I always guv him one salute in the morning (if I could raise my arm) (and if I thought he could raise one eyelid) and usually one at the end. He sure deserved it. Still does.

Flight Lead, mostly, towards the end. Bad places, bad situations, he'd say on the intercom, "What do you think? You guys wanna go in?" We'd pucker up and say, "Yeah. Let's go get 'em," and in we'd go. And dammit we always came out, thanks to him.

Dink in a tree just outside our rotor disk on one CA insertion, all kinds of stuff going on. We're (lead) in and out. Made it. Halfway back to Polei Kleng ten minutes later he keys the IC, says to me, "You get that guy?"

I bet you prolly got a sense of that, talking to him. McNamaras and Rumsfelds don't deserve guys like him, or like Careys, or Schmitzes, or Taylors ...
