The pads inside place the helmet before 1969. The "119th Avn Co" makes it before it became an 'Assault Helicopter company" in 1968? "Support for the 4th" Makes it after about Nov. 1966 (before that and until mid 1967 we supported the 3/25th in the pleiku area). From the Machine gun on it, I'd say it belonged to a gunner or crewchief, The chin piece is different from the ballistic helmets later used and is in pretty good condition which makes me thingit was not used and thus has been "restored". SO.. with all that, Grasshopper, your humble detective makes the hat to be a "Helmet, Aviators, Type APH-5" circa 1967-68.(we were issued "Ballistic Helmets beginning in mid 1967 in the 119th and SPH-4 helmets withthe bulging mickey mouse ears in 1969.)I also think it is real.
