Re: SITREP ??
In Response To: SITREP ?? ()

Good, Br'er Mark !!

Just got home from WRAMC.

First, the Schmitz families send their love and thanks for the prayers and support.

SGT Paul Thomas Schmitz, Jr. looks super, and has a handshake like a bear. After ELEVEN hours of surgery, he is alert, oriented and ready to race.
Not long after the surgery, Paul's neurosurgeon ran to meet Stacie and gleefully told her that Paul was painfully wiggling a toe on the previously paralyzed left side. Huzzah!

As soon as I get the go-ahead, I'll publish visiting hours and Paul Jr.'s room phone, backchannel, of course.

It was such an honor to meet Stacie, Paul, and his wonderful parents and son, Matthew. (He's a real pistol, just like his Dad and Granddad.)

Paul Sr. and Vivian (with Matthew) were on separate flights, and it was a long evening.
-while waiting with Viv and Matt,I spoke on the phone with Lt Damon Armeni's brave wife, Kim, and she informed me that Damon was REALLY coming out of his coma! He was off the ventilator, and asking about Paul! The docs had to change the subject, because his concern for his Sergeant raised his blood pressure sharply. Damon also is alert and oriented to a degree MUCH better than yesterday.. so I think all this success can be attributed to all the prayers and positive thinking.

I arrived at Reagan National Airport just after 1700, expecting Viv's flight at 1903. It was delayed about an hour, and we had plenty of time to get to know each other...and she busted me with a coin! Paul Sr.'s flight was delayed several times, (he spent about 5 hours as a runway hostage at O'Hare) and arrived just after midnight. Reaching Ward 68 at about 0230, the Schmitzes reunited, and I was privileged to be there.

After such a long day, Paul Sr. and I had to get all coffeed-up to reach the finish line. The first cup was courtesy of a nice nurse on Ward 68.
She insisted on making it for us... Warning... if visiting here, do NOT sample the 3rd floor Snack Bar's coffee machine's liquid poison. Ugh.

It appears the Nursing Staff are pulling 24-hour shifts.

Stacie has a laptop with her, and I would not be surprised to see a post from her and her gallant young Soldier if they can lookup a hookup..

Well, I gotta say GOOD MORNING, GATORS!

Hope there's at least a bit of clarity to some of the above.... butter me, I'm toast, but VERY happy.

Lumpy
