Pickett,

I know about the bullet holes and the addrenaline stuff, but we generally reserved that kind of stuff for those little holes in the trees that we would try to fit into so we could drag those who were in contact out of the woods. The Snoopy response generally came within 30 minutes to an hour after the mark had been set, so we wanted them to feel comfortable so that they would stay put till the stuff hit the fan. In the case of the arc lights, they were long enough to get the enemy even if he was moving forward at a rate of four to eight miles per hour. That was a lot safer, and we didn't want to tempt fate any more than we had to. Marty and I were flying during the same period of time. I was wounded in one of those little holes that I was telling you about on 1 November 1968 and was mailed out of there to Japan for repairs. Unfortunately, I had Cobras covering me on that day, the Crocks were on the ground during my first attempt to land, when I was wounded, and they were on the way out to the site and cussing at the Cobras for not covering me on my second attempt to land when the "Lady Janell" (519) took it in the shorts. I left her in a pile on the road just South of Ben Heit.
