today Caroline called me to tell me about the mess that they are in, but she was able to call out over the land line phone. Somehow they obtained a regular phone (not one of the wireless phones for the home) and they can make and receive phone calls at their house. Caroline has an upbeat attitude about the whole situation and they are doing the best that they can. She says that she will bail out if the situation becomes tense.

The house has had a tree fall across the entrance of the house, and they have cut a path out through that door, the rest of the exits are still open. They are getting people to remove the tree from the front of the house. All of the paths into and out of Pensacola have been cut and they are there virtually without everything. She purchased a lot of water and food that does not require refrigeration, so they will not starve or go without water. The plumbing system for the city is broken in several places and they are not allowed to flush their potty and the city water is shut down, they have prepared "alternative methods" to take care of personal needs. She has said that it will be a while before they can anticipate the return of city services again. The house is leaking in the front where the tree has damaged the house, but the rest is in tact.

The government is bringing in ice and water to a school just around the corner from their house. They are just camping out in the house, and getting along as well as they can. She has her barbeque pit going full blast in the back yard and her family is cooking all of the meat from the freezer. She says that they are warm, but doing well, and there is a cool breeze in several areas of their house.

Caroline says that the street in front of her house is one of the few that are open, and the cars are lining up to get the ice and water at the school around the corner. She says that there is plenty of entertainment there just watching the fights and jockeying for position in the line. She is happy to be able to sit in her yard drinking coffee and watching the show.
