Re: 'bout shine and those Virginny Hills...

There were 2 brothers came from Europe and settled in the Weirs Cave area on a grant from the King of England. There are Saufley's all over that area. I have a cousin still living on the original homestead, and his parents lived in the original house until they passed away about 6 or 7 years ago.

The 2 brothers had a little dispute, and 1 left and went to KY. They're well known in the Frankfort area. One of their relatives was Lt. Saufley that set many early Naval flying records and made the first take off and landing from an aircarft carrier. There's a big display about him in the Naval Air Museum at Pensacola, and he's the reason for Saufley Field and Saufley Ave in Pensacola.

There's a big Saufley Reunion in Harrisonburg every year. I went years ago but haven't been to one for a long time. Oh yeah, the cousin living on the original homestead still has the grant. It's quite awesome to look at.

We were also a family divided during the Civil War. There were members from both VA and KY that fought on both sides. What a deal.
