Bob, I of course, would want to make that trip, we owe him that much! He used to take the heat off of us when ever you would feel down or hunted by the cadre. No matter what Jake would do, nobody would get mad at him. Bob, Davie and myself have had numerous conversations of late about what Jake's actual job was and we concluded that he was the Morale NCOIC.

I remember once in particular, SGT. Lovell called him out of formation and told him to wait in his office over to the fight hanger until he was finished with us. When the Sarge walked in to his office Jake was in his chair with a cigarette burning on his desk with a two inch ash burning into it. To Sarges amazement, Jake, with his feet up responded with "whats going on Sarge". Sarge said just get the F*^@ out of here.

I can still see him after all these years snapping his fingers and saying " whats going on and ya ain't got another one of those have ya". God must put people on earth for certain reasons and Jake's was to put a smile on your face. I will not miss you because you've always been with me. Thats for the ever lasting memories.
