Re: Jerry C. "Jake" Gilliland 1943 - 2004

There were people that would cross our pathes as we went through life which we could never forget. Jake was one of those people. He always looked like he had gotten dressed in a blender and his hat was never placed on his head the same way.

Jake and the jeep will always have two things in common. Everybody in the army has a "Jeep" story and those of us who knew him have our "Jake" stories. Most of us including 1st Sgt. Wyatt never really could figure out what Jake's job actually was. As "Shakey" said he was in charge of morale. He would change a really shitty day into something that you could laugh about.

I would imagine that St. Peter will have to assign a special angel to Jake just to keep his halo on straight and keep "Summabitch" out of the phrase "Praise the Lord".

The jeep and Jake might be gone but will never be forgotten as long as we remember them.
