Al,

Remember a place which was located just south of Holloway near contour mountain. It had pink and other colorful buildings. It was called "Sin City". By the time I got in-country it had been shut down. But that didn't keep some of the young troopers in our company from enjoying themselves during their off hours.

There were two or three guys in the first flight platoon (whose names I won't mention) that would make weekly pilgrimages to the greater Pleiku area. Although they were eager to share their love with the pretty ladies which lived in town, they did show the good sense to be equiped with the best personal protection that was available.
Several times during June and July of 1968, Pleiku was placed off-limits for one reason or another.Rather then let their supply of personal safety equipment go to waste we found another use for them. After about a week, the flight crews were called to a formation and told that our behavior was not acceptable and that our bombing run would have to cease. Sgt. Wyatt had a hard time keeping a straight face during the formation. We were then ordered to paint the larger tail numbers on our ships. Sgt. Hall our platoon sgt. took this as a personal insult and decided that some type of punishment detail was in order. He decided to have us clear the tall grass out of the perimeter in front of our bunker. What started out as a small fire turned into a big one. Come to think of it, that was the last time the platoon as a whole was ever put on a detail together.
