Paul,
From what I was told, there were three UH-1H that were being used. One was done up as a 1st Bde. ship and each day they would change the door numbers to different units. The day I rode her, she was marked as the 61 Assault Helicopter bird.
The others were made up like a Cav ship and I did see one as a 101st ABN ship. Would have loved to gone over one at night with the crew on a post flight just to see if I could remember all the stuff we used to do. I don't think I would have had to check for bullet holes but just to climb up on the mast and touch the rotor blades again would have been kool.
The grunts I played golf with said it wasn't the same to fly in one without their legs hanging out the door but then again most of them were a little bigger than they were back then and one told me his butt wouldn't be able to grip the floor the way it did when going into a landing zone.
There was a large group of 4th Infantry guys there from Il. and I was welcomed into their group as one of their own because of our unit.
