119th Rides Again

As some of you know from e-mail, I am still alive and doing well. I'm just so darned busy I haven't had time to stop for much of anything. I have more business going on than I know what to do with and often wonder why I didn't stay retired a little longer before starting all this.
Another year and I'll turn on the cruise control and turn most everything over to the boys.

It's been far too long since I was on the site, and I've certainly missed it and all of you. I only had to peruse of few of the postings to know
that nothing had changed. I really wanted to go to the reunion but the timing was just all wrong this year.

I did want to make sure that I said something of another special 119th event, though Huey has probably already mentioned it. Several months ago, my son, Tony, called to tell me his really good friend, SFC Calvin McCloy, was wounded along
with the rest of his crew when their Bradley hit and IED. They all suffered severe burns, with Calvin being one of the worst as he kept going back to get his men out. He was being sent to Ft.
Sam for treatment, but the Army wouldn't pay to get his wife, Loretta, there or pay for her to stay when she arrived. My son asked if we might be able to help. I placed a call to Huey, and he gave me the necessary info for Chuck Oualine, in San Antonio. We gathered enough money to get Loretta a plane ticket, and Chuck and his wife met her at the airport and got her everywhere she
needed to be. Calvin has since recovered and is back on duty at Ft. Riley, KS. After a few effectively placed phone calls, Loretta was reimbursed for her plane ticket, and the Army paid for her entire stay in TX. After rehab, the Army was going to put Calvin out on a medical, which he didn't want. Again, a few appropriately placed phone calls and letters, and Calvin will be staying in and soon be transferred back to Ft.
Benning, where my son is. Calvin can't thank Huey
or Chuck and his wife enough for all their help and is simply in awe of what a bunch of old Nam vets is capable of willing to do. One of his most
valued possessions has become his autographed copy of Chuck's book. My personal thanks to Huey,
and Chuck and his wife for all their help. Typical of those who served in the 119th. Some things just never change.
