Long distance..guess it has to be donations of $$$. I just put my name in with the Red Cross (only because they seem to be the main coordinating agency) . They want all kinds of volunteers. Asked if I could go out of town for up to 3 weeks..said yes. Will see if needed. Of course will quit or refuse to work for them if they try to collect from those in need. Should be interesting..
Called the local VA,first, but no answer. Know there is/was a large VA hospital and retirement home in Biloxi right on the coast. No idea if it's still there. The Mississippi coast in that region is pretty well decimated. New Orleans also has a large VA hospital right downtown. Don't know if they have all been evacuated..most weren't when the storm hit.
