New Orleans is definitely about the worst place for something like this to happen. Having lived there for 5 years and lived through a somewhat smaller hurricane, it will be years before the city is ever close to normal, if at all. The water from the levee breaking was the big killer,
but there are just too many things for all the rescue people to deal with. I'm sure many of the dead bodies floating in the water are coming from the cemeteries, which has happened many times before. At some point, I'm sure snakes, alligators and other wildlife will come into play, along with a multitude of environmental issues. I venture to say that many of the folks who were evacuated will never be able to return. No one has yet been able to fully grasp or understand the magnitude and future impact of the event on all of our lives. I would venture to
guess that when they're all done counting, if they're ever really done, that there'll be more dead than 9-11.
