Michael R. Gorman
In Response To: Hurricane (long) ()

Michael R. Gorman, the composer of that "poem," is a self-described homosexual "Druid," and member of the so-called "Pagan clergy" from Sacramento, California.

Why anyone would give a shit what he thinks about anything, is beyond me.

You cannot make this stuff up.

Group Overview: The Sacramento Grove of the Oak was founded in the Spring of 1998 by Druid Michael R. Gorman. The Grove began in response to a number of people who talked to Michael about being solitary practitioners in the various branches of Paganism. Many practiced alone in order to avoid the dogma and pressure to conform that so often accompany organized groups, yet they missed the joys of community, especially at the festival times. Having come out of strongly dogmatic denominations of Christianity, Michael too sought to avoid the pitfalls of dogma and organized religion. Others who talked to him were members of various racial, cultural, or sexual minorities who dreamed of finding a community where they could bring their special perspectives and gifts to offer without being made to feel like second-class citizens. Together this handful of people decided to try and build a community that could share wisdom and experience without imposing dogma on those within the community. They wanted to craft a community that welcomed diversity and cherished the varied gifts of its members. At the same time, they had no wish to judge those covens, circles, groves, etc. that preferred a more structured and traditional approach to Pagan practice, but rather to begin to build bridges of cooperation and respect with those groups. With that tall order in mind, the Sacramento Grove of the Oak was born. In addition to sponsoring public and private rituals, Festivals, drum circles, kids activities, and its regular gatherings, the Grove offers classes in Druidry, Wicca, Earth Magic, Herbalism and other subjects at its Druid College. The Grove does not discriminate based on age, gender, sexual orientation, different ability, or any of the other wonderful variations that make up our human family. In November of 2002, The Grove applied for and received tax exempt, non-profit church status under the IRS and the State of California. In February of 2005, The Grove opened a sister Circle in Mariposa California, just outside Yosemite National Park. The new member group of our Grove family is The Mariposa Circle of the Sequoia. The Circle is developing a school of healing, an indigenous studies program, and other services in addtion to their regular gatherings. For more information, contact the Grove.
