Gun Sale

Sold a pistol I didn't need today, to a pal of mine.

Pal said to me, "Okay, I'll buy it."

State of CT has all kinds of regulations about guns. They require background checks, permits, etc.

I went on the State Police web site, printed off 2 forms. We filled them out.

Called State Police 800 number printed on forms, an officer answered the phone, in person, 2nd ring.

"Authorization desk."

Told him I wanted an authorization number to sell a pistol.

"What's your Permit Number?" he asks.

I told him what it was.

Then, "What's the buyer's permit number?" and I told him.

He said, "This'll prolly take about 2 minutes, hang on."

Chunka chunka chunka background check on two schmoes in progress chunka chunka ...

"Okay, here's your number. Put it on both forms. You keep the originals of both. Forever. Copies of each to buyer, local chief, and us. Okay?"

"Yessir, thanks a lot."

"Bye."

Start to finish, call was maybe 3 or 4 minutes. The system here works if you're on the level. Legal gun transferred between two legal owners, no prollem. Not as easy as buying one on the street, but still easy.
