I just stepped out on the back porch to get a few more maple slabs to throw into the fireplace, and a magnificent shrieking came from the treetops about 20 yards behind the house.

I looked up and saw a HUGE eagle settling into a treetop. I was awestruck. I wanted to run and get my camera, but just had to keep looking.

He ?? didn't stay long, so I'm glad I didn't go for the camera.. hopefully, this will happen again - I hope there's a nest closeby.

That's the closest I've seen one... all before have been at a great distance, circling lazily, but certainly alertly. Lunchtime.
