superb, George.
and with ALL respect, "not bad, for a Grunt"...
We love ya, Man.
I'm finishing up a great book- "They Marched Into Sunlight, War and Peace in Vietnam and America October 1967" - by David Maraniss-
the story, thoroughly researched and documented from official files, public records and endless interviews of participants on all sides- is of a few infantry companies of the 2/28th, (Black Lions) 1st Division, the Big Red One, and a few smaller, then a major "meeting engagement" (ambush) with the NVA and VC just North of Lai Khe in October, '67.
Along the same timeline is the story of the anti-Dow demonstrations and evential rioting at the University of Wisconsin, culminating in the largest antiwar demonstration in Washington.
By the way- the Black Lions were supported by the 173rd AHC Robin Hoods ("of Sherwood Forest" in Lai Khe- and "owners" of America's Huey, 091, was most likely [my assumption, from vague information in the book] in the thick of it with these American Heroes.)
In my view, great insights into our strengths and weaknesses, then and now. I have it in hardback and paperback, and the paperback is available to lend. Gimme a shout and an address b/c, anyone?
again, thanks, George- yours goes on my "read" list.
