Every unit had their own A&D officer. Before they
could put anything in, they had to be given a written report of the action. Not too many of us were interested in writing reports. They had to submit it to BN, and who knows what happened there. In order to get it through, the unit A&D officer had to keep bugging them all the time. Of
course, once it got that far, it had to be extremely well written in order to get awarded and to keep from being downgraded to a lesser award. I understand John Kerry was real good at writing, and it didn't hurt to have his connections at the top. I don't know that anyone can even remember who any of the A&D officers were with the 119th. I know I can't.
