That is true. you had to be 18 to hold a warrant back then. Back in 66 when you finished flight school you were granted pilot wings and (on the orders) 24 hours later you were made a WO-1 and your orders showed you processing out at your NCO rank (or SP5 if you were new) and then being called to active duty as a WO-1. For 24 hours you were a flying sergeant. an 062B.
Anyway, a couple of guys in my class were high school to flight school and they had to wait 4 or 5 days as sp5 NCOs before they could be made Warrants and the rest of us had 4 or 5 days time in grade on them for rank purposes. The army had some bullshit rules and played a lot of games with young men who were being trained to die in Reynolds Wrap armor plate. I'd like to have the balls of the personnel officers of that day in a vice. I'd enjoy squeezing them till they croaked and then slap them silly.
