By the time I got drafted, I was 23 years old, after spending 5 years at Michigan State playing "Animal House". I don't know if was my age, college education, or both, but I had the highest GT score in my company. First, they tried the WO Flight school pitch on me, then they gave me the OCS song and dance, and finally they had me, along with 3 other guys from other Basic companies, who had the highest GT score in their companies, go see the CG at Ft Knox and explain why none of us wanted to take advantage of those 2 great Army programs. Needless to say, none of us bit. They finally made me go to NCO school after AIT, but I figured that was another 6 months stateside before I had to go to VN.
