UH-1 64-13891

Hi all.

Today marks the 40 year anniversary of UH-1 64-13891 final flight in which I lost my brother. At the age of nine I remember Mom and Dad reading a letter from a brother I barely knew who was serving in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. The letter said he was fine and for them not to worry about him. He couldn't wait to come home to see the family, and his baby girl who he hadn't seen. After Mom finished reading the letter, we all went outside to play. Three hours later a green car pulled up into our driveway. I ran up to it thinking it was my brother Jesus. I asked the two soldiers; "Where is my brother"?, as I glanced inside the green car. One of them asked me if My father and mother were home? By this time my dad stepped out into the porch, stumbling back against the screen door I heard him cry out; " Dear God please No, no, no as tears ran down his face. I asked him; " Daddy what's wrong"? The news they brought was devestating to our family. I still miss my brother a lot! You guys from the 119th are the living part of him. Thanks for being here for me.

Sincerely,
Dan
