DD Form 214 Changes

I finally, after many months, received a decision from the Department of the Army Board of Correction of Military Records today.

Everything that I requested, minus an AAM, was awarded including my Southwest Asia Service Medal (can you believe I ETS'd without this on my 214 !!! I must have been late for a Fraulein and a Hefeweizen !).

I was one of the few at the time that ETS'd in Germany and didn't return to the US for out processing. The S shop clerk who handled my paperwork sat in a closet and knew as little about what needed to be on the 214 as I did.

All in all, not a bad experience. I filled out the paperwork as requested (typed). Included all the orders and other documentation that I had and received 100% of what I expected to get awarded. The AAM I didn't get was one of 6 that I requested to be added. The orders I included for it were unclear, so the Army was correct in not awarding it to me.

Moral of the story - If you don't have it on your 214 and think you should, get it all together and send it in. It takes a while, but it was great to get the decision in the mail today.
