Paul, I am not even sure when I started flying. I know that one of the early days was either Thanksgiving or Christmas, because we spent the day moving turkey dinners to the grunts. I think, in my case, it was Christmas... but I'm not sure; it might have been Thanksgiving.
I do remember that my first gunner, the guy who showed me the flying ropes, was Bob Copher. What a good guy. I've got no idea where he ended up, or even where he was from.
I went through a couple of others before Eggy and I hooked up. Eggy was the best. Every day he did something to amaze me.
Great stuff.
As I said to my Mom years ago when she asked me how I felt about Vietnam: I told her, "There are a lot of guys walking around today because we were there, doing what we did. I'm okay with that."
