Bob, I was talking with another pilot yesterday who had just seen that video.

He made a couple of good points. First, those stunt airplanes have a power-to-weight ratio such that they hang from the prop in many maneuvers, so the pilot was familiar with that capability.

Then he said, knowing that, he would have expected the pilot to just grab enough altitude to safely punch out and forget the whole thing.

And... before he could do any of the above, he had to assess his situation, determine that he had actually lost a wing, and then figure out how to recover an airplane that had only one wing from a spin. Yikes.

To then hover in and pull that landing off, dropping the airplane down onto its wheels, is ridiculous. The guy is Superman.

On the other hand, and as you know, most crashes happen when two bad things intersect to occur at the same time. In this case, only one bad thing happened; he only lost one wing.
