Yer right about the carbine, Bob. I was just funnin' you. I still like them, tho. Just for cheap fun. Our company's first order, back in 1950, came from the Underwood Typewriter Co., right up the street from where we are now. So I've got an Underwood carbine, real nice one, and fun to play with. Lousy weapon, I agree.

Biggest surprise to me was to find out in Vietnam that the carbine round was subsonic. They shoot atcha, you hear the shot before the bullet arrives. Somebody shoots at you with an M-14 or M-16, you never hear the shot if it's well-aimed, as you know.

20 dollars or so for a 120-round carbine bandolier, stripper clips and all. Makes it easier to have fun. Plus there are plenty of 30- and 40-round magazines around, you can make a lot of noise if you want.

But... as you say... I wouldn't carry one into trouble unless everybody else was carrying one also.

I do hold it in higher esteem than that damn greasegun, tho. DUM ba da DUM ba da DUM ba da... yikes. You could have a smoke between shots.
