broken promises

I don't know how many military retirees are amongst us, but I know I'm not alone here. Anyone who has talked to a recruiter, or enlisted, or conferred with a Career Counselor / RE-UP NCO- knows that the promise made of free (if you served 20 years) medical care for life, and for your spouse, and kids until they're 18, or 24 if full-time students, but it NEVER was in writing. So, the cheapskate (except for THEIR bennies) Congress - shafted us.

The inertia to take it away from us started, I believe, with Gramm-Rudman, which also bled our military of equipment, intel capabilities, funding for training, and chased off a lot of damned good soldiers.

These days, unless retirees pay high (and climbing) yearly fees and deductibles, there is no care short of the local military hospital emergency room.

A 9000 member class-action suit a couple of years ago, attempting to force the government to make good the promise to retirees, was lost at a state supreme (??) court because the plaintiffs' attorneys could not prove that the government has made such promises- despite plenty of first-hand testimony to the contrary.

Well, we're at it again... with a bill in Congress- if anyone wants to get "in on it", or show support to the "powers that be" for the cause, please contact me via email.

I have a form letter which says it all. It can be faxed online, emailed, or printed and sent to the congress, and/or anyone to encourage support for the legislation.

the Blitz starts Monday. Should this Bill not pass, another, much more populated and better-advocated class action suit will commence. The climate is right.

Shout for details.... and never volunteer for anything. (I have a wheelbarrow for you.)

Thanks,
Tom
