Letter 3-27-64

OK guys, I'm on vacation starting tomorrow so I'll post a few of my uncle's letters home today to hold you throught to next week. I think the pictures will take a few weeks to get back from the photoshop, but I think they'll be well worth the wait, and the price. Til then..

Hi Folks,

Well, March has jus about ended. Next comes April. In four more days it will make a whole month since I've last seen you. I hope everything is well at home with you and all the family.

I also hope you had a nice Easter Sunday. I'm sorry that I couldn't send a card or something, but they didn't have any in the PX. Besides, I'm kind of busted until payday, which is in just four more days.

Oh, in as much as I was hoping to get the extra pay, I was disppointed to find out that in order to get it you have to put in six missions. Such as flights against the V.C. or driving off the post for water or something like that. I got here kind of late to get in this month, but I'll try to get it next month.

There is also a god chance that if I do well for the next 5-6 months I'll get a ship of my own as crew chief. This means I'll get over a hundred extra dollars a mmonth. So for now I'll just have to be content with what I get.

Talking about money. Have you got my bond for February from the government yet? If not tell me and I'll go down to finance to straighten them out.

The work I'm doing is very interesting. We pull intermediate and other inspections, repair and replace. I've got A LOT to learn, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to like it. I only hope it will help me when I get out.

How is everyone? Did you make sargent yet dad? [George's father was a police officer in Southbridge, MA] Are you still at the nursing home Mom? How are the love live's of my two favorite sisters coming along? Is Uncle Charlie Demers visiting you fairly often or does he stay away pretty much. Has Unlce Charllie Trahan been nominated for the U.S. vice-presidency yet? Has cuck moved toward Framingham yet? What's Dennis doing now? Does he still work in Worcester? Are any of my cousins getting married? I hope Margaret hurries up because I'll have to pay Aunt Jane that $5 if she isn't married by next April. How's Prince and my car? I hope everyone and everything remains the same as I left it.

I think there is ittle chance of me getting to Fort Devens from here. Or any First Army post for that matter. Most all personel from here are sent to the 11th Air Assault at Fort Benning, GA. It's about the toughest, roughest, Army aviation outfit there is. I guess I'll have to put up with being a long way from home for the rest of my time in.

I've got to hang up my pen and sign off now. I hope to hear from you soon. Please tell all the others to wrote, even though I can't write to them. Especially you Dad. How about a line or two.

Your loveing son and brother,

George
