Letter 4-2-64

Hello people, I hope you have had a chance to enjoy the pictures that I have posted. Alot of them are of my uncle during his time in Viet Nam, some of them are of the ship he flew in and many are of other people stationed at Camp Holloway. Here is another letter he wrote home.

Hi Folks,

How are things with everyone? Everything is fine here. I am waiting for mail call right now. I do hope there's a letter from you waiting for me.

The snow must be making way for green grass and flowers by now. I think Spring time is one of the nicest times of the year. Over here, it's no different no matter what the season is.

I've got guard duty tonight for the first time. Guard mount [i think that's what he wrote] is at six thirty this evening and I'll be done at 7:00 in the morning. I'll be able to sleep all morning so I guess it's not so bad.

Enclosed you'll find a 5 piastre and a 10 piastra note. The 5p note is worth about 6 cents and the 10p note is worth about 12 cents. Soon as possible I'll send a 20p and on up. You can see on the bill where it says nam dong on the 5p note and nuoi dong. They mean just that. 5 and 10 dongs. Those coins I sent are dongs. Those are the largest coins they have. I guess they're in a bind when it comes to soda machines.

Whenever you ay send a package I would appreciate it if you would send my binoculars and my watch. You can send the three pieces and I'll have it fixed over here or you could have it fixed at home if you like. Gee I just can't think of anything more to say. I'll be gald when I can afford a camera to show some pictures of the post, the aircraft and arial scenes when i can talk a crew chief into taking me for a ride.

Until later, your loving son and brother, George
