I hear ya Paul. That's pretty much the story with
most, and especially with the 119th. When you put
everything in perspective, the medals only serve a couple of good purposes: 1) if you're going to go into politics 2) to induce someone to ask you a question so you can tell a war story. We all know what we did; those we served with know what we did; and those we did it for on the ground know what we did. That's what really matters. As
an example: I recently went to the baptism of a friends 8 year old son. His mother-in-law was there and told the boy a story about her brother and something that happened while he was serving in Vietnam and went into Cambodian. Naturally, my
ears perked right up, and I had to ask her about it later. Turns out he was with the 4th ID. I gave her a coin to give to her brother when she got home and to tell him it was from Croc 6 and told her he would understand. He did and called to thank me and that he had always wanted to know who that was on the other end of that radio.
He thanked me for saving his butt more than once.
We could hear each other's tears over the phone. Much better than all the medals.
