: Hey guys,
: I just received a copy of my fathers DD-214. I
: may have the years wrong in my original
: post. It may have been 68,69,70,& 71.
: How in the world can I determine if he was a
: crew chief or not? The only thing it states
: on these is that he was attached to: 14th
: Co, 1st Bn, USAAVNS Bde, 3d USA. Anyone
: familiar with this? I plan on attempting to
: get his service record next, maybe it will
: give me more info. It list his MOS as 67N40
: UH-1 Hel Rpmn. Rank at this time is SSG.

Jerry, you sort of need to read between the lines on those forms and you need to know what to look for.

The DD-214 gives a recap of total service, but a complete picture only of where the service member was at discharge. His 201 File will give a much better picture of what/when/where but, again, you need someone who knows how to read the jargon and read between the lines. What might seem like gibberish to a layman could be very important information.

There are guys here who can help. If you collect whatever information you can, there will absolutely be someone around who can translate accurately for you.
