: I find myself somewhat corn-fused about this
: Vietnam Veteran and Vietnam Era Veteran
: labels that people have chosen.

: I don't remember anyone saying they were a WWII
: veteran or a WWII era veteran. You were
: either there or you weren't. The same should
: apply to our generation.

: The American Legion does not separate Veterans
: from Foreign War Veterans as does the VFW.
: If you served than he should be proud of his
: service. Making himself something other then
: that is garbage. I questioned his bio when
: it first came out and since that time have
: received backing from other members that
: wish to correct this type of bull-s%#t.

My problem with this guy, Ron, is that he changed the wording of his claims in mid-stream to make it seem he served in Vietnam.

I was lucky to have about 8 months in Germany after Vietnam. Most of the lucky bastards I was with in Germany spent their entire time there, never went to Vietnam. I am still in touch with a few of them, great guys, lucky bastards, and I guarantee that not one of them would describe himself as a Vietnam Veteran.

It's too bad that we need to go through this exercise. Go back to the latest statistic: About 2-1/2 Million of us served in Vietnam from 1962 through 1975. Latest estimates are that over 11 Million (mostly) men now, today, claim to have served in Vietnam.

Sheesh.

There is no reason that the Legion Commander would have to have served in Vietnam. But he sure should not use weasel words to give a faulty impression that he did, if he did not.

Thanks,
Bob
