Here's one you will remember Bob. You were with us the night this happened. Nov.10 ,1968. Jim Fall and myself had just got promoted to E-5. We were at Dak To pulling an RON[remain over night]. We had started at the LRRP bar and than had continued drinking in the RON test. I don't remember who had the idea but we decided to go down to the village and see if any of the young ladies would like a date. So about eight drunks start out for the village. I think I was the only one who brought a weapon and it was just a lousy .45. So it's you,me,Jim Johnson,Sempek,Frakes,Fall and a couple of guys from second flight. We just about get to the village and the MP's show up. They inform us that the village is off-limits and that we had better get into the jeeps because we are in trouble now. The one MP thought he was John Wayne. He had got some fly boys and he was going to push it to the max. Frakes is sitting on the back edge of the jeep and pretty drunk. He falls a sleep and the next thing we know is he falls out of the jeep. The MP slams on the brakes and starts backing up like a mad man. The jeep goes thump and here we are sitting in the middle of the road realizing we just ran over Frakes. So Sempek starts talking to the MP on how if he would forget about us being in the village we might forget about him running over our buddy. So we make the deal and load Frakes into the back of the jeep and head back to the tent. The next morning I'm on top of my ship and here comes Billy. He's got a big bump on his head and he's limping along because of this giant bruise on his thigh. He asked me what we did the night before. I told him we got drunk and went to bed. I was afraid if I told him the truth he would kill me. I don't think anybody ever told him what happened that night. As big as he was he could probablly kicked all of our butts. I wonder if he still limps.
