I have quite a number of friends that are cops in Cleveland and Omaha. I worry about reading their names in the paper all the time. They all have families. Many of them tried to talk me into years ago, and I told them I had already faught one war without support. I wasn't about to do it again. True, there are some bad cops, but the great majority of them are dedicated, hard working people that have a strong belief in what they're doing, just like some other young men I served with. I agree with BT on how cop killers should be dealt with.
