We had Idiots in DC and yes men in the military chain of command too until Westmoreland was relieved.
The policy was flawed because the SECDEF was a know nothing and The CG USARV cared more for his career than he did his men in my opinion. He should have resigned and gone public. He owed it to the men fighting with the no win restrictions imposed by the biggest asshole ever to come out of Texas (Johnson) and his minions.
Any basic squad leader showed more concern for his troops than Westy. And had more balls politically.
As for the men who died revisitning the battlefield, I am sorry, I cannot feel for them. The loss of human life is regrettable but they were the men flinging rockets to interrupt my sleep and they were the men who shot down my buddies.
